Reason for the licensing exam:
California law requires each candidate for licensure as an embalmer to pass an examination.
The purpose of the examination is to determine whether the candidate
has the knowledge needed to provide safe and effective services to the public.
The examination addresses knowledge of the laws and regulations related to embalming public.
The examination addresses knowledge of the laws and regulations related to embalming.
The embalmer examination covers three major duty areas
that define the scope of knowledge necessary for safe and
effective practice. Each of the major duty areas are weighted on
the examination in terms of its importance in practice:
EMBALMER RESPONSIBILITIES (41%),
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT (40%), and
LICENSURE & PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT (19%).
I. Embalmer Responsibilities (41%): This content area assesses the candidate’s knowledge pertaining to the practice of embalming found in the
Business and Professions Code (B&PC), California Code of Regulations (CCR), Government Code (GC), and the Health and Safety Code (H&SC).
SECRET: 6% of this 41% is 'transportation', 24% of this 41% is "preparation', and 11% of this 41% is "notifications".
II. Facilities and Equipment (40%): This content area assesses the candidate’s knowledge of
maintenance and sanitation practices as indicated by the California Code of Regulations (CCR).
SECRET: 26% of this 40% is "maintenance' and 14% of this 40% is "sanatation".
III. Licensure and Professional Conduct (19%): This content area assesses the candidate’s knowledge of embalmer licensure and
professional conduct as found in the Business and Professions Code (B&PC) and California Code of Regulations (CCR).
SECRET: 10% of this 19% is from "administration" and 9% of this 19% is from "conduct".
